Employers win one, lose one, in operational reasons cases

The AIRC has rejected a company's bid to rely on Work Choices' operational reasons exemption in an unfair dismissal case, finding it wanted a worker who was made redundant during a restructure "out" for other reasons, while in a separate matter an employer who sacked a worker on restricted duties has successfully relied on the exemption.


Paid "financial fitness" leave for Citi employees

The 2,700 permanent employees of Citi Group in Australia will be entitled from next year to eight hours annually of paid leave to manage their personal finances.
